My first week – recap

19 Aug

Well, I made it through my first week back to work. It was nice going back, it’s nice being around adults again, although I miss my kids terribly during the day. I knew I’d miss them but it’s harder than I remember it used to be. Kenna is doing so well being at home (school starts in a week for her) and has been doing the chores on her list. Jay is doing pretty good; he did cry one day this week and said he didn’t want to go to “school” aka daycare. But he bounced right back.

I feel like I’m accomplishing something. Yes I cleaned house and cooked while at home but I never felt like I “contributed” to my family. I know that sounds strange. But it all comes down to money, I guess. I kept the house running with cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. but that didn’t add any zeros to the bank account. Now I do that and feel like I’m doing something for them that I couldn’t do before. I feel there’s a little more “equality” with Sean and myself. Now, I’ll never make as much as he does, but that fact that we’re both adding money to the account is nice.

So, onto what I did this week. I embarrassed myself and still do daily. Lemme explain.  I set up the voicemail system for new employees or those that have moved offices/jobs/departments. All this entails is clearing out old voicemail messages, changing their phone display and helping set up new voicemail. Easy, right? Well, when I was doing my own on Monday I set up a system-wide “important announcement” that everyone in the district will hear (at least once). It’s my outgoing message. I mean…everyone, including the superintendent and office staff. UGH, we all had a good laugh and no one really seemed to mind but it was embarrassing nonetheless. Mainly I just learned my computer (it’s a Mac and I’m a windows gal at home), started setting up aforementioned voicemail, went to each school in the district a few times, had new employee training and helped my boss with that. At the end of the week the real “work” started and I had to put in every student from 7-12th grade into the computer. It took me a day and a half, which I thought was excessive but my boss and the other guy in the office (who I guess is my boss too but not my direct supervisor?) were thrilled with how quickly I did it. So, yeah me!

There’s a lady in the main central office who was having a few issues and I helped her through them. She told me that I was the right person for my position and she thanked me profusely. She made me cry. In a happy, “OMG, I’m doing something right” way. It just meant so much to me that she took the time out of her crazy schedule to let me know how much I was appreciated and that I was doing good. It felt nice.

I have one more week of getting used to before school starts and it gets a little crazy. I’ll have to re-figure my schedule once I gotta get Kenna up and deal with another person in our one bathroom. And my knee is feeling better so I’m headed back to the gym this week too. Hopefully I won’t lose my mind as I’m trying to come up with a schedule that works for us while trying to learn my new job.

On the diet front, I apparently needed to go to work to jump-start my weight loss. I’ve been losing about 1lb a week for a while now. I’m not complaining because YEAH! a pound a week is good. But this week I lost 3lbs. Not sure why really. I’m not eating an afternoon snack because I’m at work and I haven’t been working out because of the knee. I have been walking at work as much as I can instead of driving to the nearest school. But even then I’m just sitting at a desk for the most part. But, I’m not going to complain! I’m now down 34lbs since early April. Not too bad, I’m right on track to hitting my goal in March/April of next year. I can fit into 14s comfortably and some 12s, depending on the brand. Heck, even last month when getting work clothes I was in a 16 and squeezing into a 14. Not too shabby!

So there’s my update. I don’t know much at work still so I feel a little helpless since I can’t help people like I want but I’m apparently doing a good job. I love the people I work with; they’re super nice, easy to talk with and feel comfortable with and are jokesters. I’m ready to learn more and make them proud.

Lookie who’s blogging!

14 Aug

Excuses, excuses, I know. But I seriously have had lots of stuff going on the past few weeks. First thing is the kids and I have been on a nice little vacay visiting my family in the TX panhandle and in OK. It’s nice, I don’t get to see everyone too often because we’re just too far away. So this trip we’re totally making it count. We’ll be gone for 14 days total and have plenty of time to visit all the people we can. Sure the driving sucks, and Jay’s sleeping has been outta whack but I really don’t care.

I’m at my Sis’ house now and totally enjoying our time together and all the kids are having a blast. See, we had babies like stair steps…the ages we have right now are 1, 5, 6, 8 and 15.  We’ve gone swimming and bowling, they’ve made “dirt cups”, they’ve played their Nintendo DS games and I’m sure there’s been a few fights. But it really is nice that they’re all so close in age, they entertain each other.  Now, the 15 year old entertains me. He’s a hoot. Yes, he’s a teenager and can be an ass sometimes but he’s honestly a good kid. We have this ritual where we watch stupid scary movies and either laugh or make fun of them together.  What 15 year old boy wants to hang out with his Aunt and Mom? Yeah…great kid.

AND with all this traveling I’ve been chatting with Sean a lot lately.  See, he’s got lots going too and it’s going to change our lives in the next few months. He got a new job in a wonderful town in East TX. He had nothing but great things to say about it when he went there for the interview and I can’t wait to see it for myself.  It’s a great move for him and we’re really excited to see what it’ll bring for our family.  Kenna is happy about new friends, I’m happy because the school’s dress code is almost the same as her current one. Jay is too young to care but I’m sure he’s happy too! HA! We’ll be moving early October, great time honestly…not too hot but not too cold and rainy. I’ve only driven through that part of Texas once and it was beautiful, I cannot wait to call it home for a long while! Oooh and another awesome part, we’ll finally be closer to family again! I’ll be about 4.5 hrs from my Sissy and Daddio and about 7 hrs from my Ma. I’m totally stoked.

See, we’ve been crazy busy and running around all over Texas and Oklahoma AND my hubby’s been busy changing jobs. I’ll post some pics of our little vacay soon. Wish us luck with the insane-ness!

Tap, tap, tap…anyone here?

14 May

Ok, should I be upset that even though I haven’t posted in how long again…my stats are actually better?! LMAO!  That shit ain’t right.

Well, by request of Pinkknotes I’m blogging for the first time in sooooooo long!  Damn I love that gal and the funny thing is I’ve never met her! She started with a simple blog comment and our relationships has blossomed into a freaky-kinky-love-fest!  Ha! You really should follow both of us on twitter and you’ll see how we talk about sex toys and awesome things that begin with “p” and end with “enis” and having a threesome.  Oh yeah…we’re freaky like that! (BTW, the threesome was for photography lessons, not sex but the other stuff was totally sexually related!).

Oh yeah, my blog post…well I have a new “job”.  I use the term loosely because at this point it so does not feel like a job.  I’m now an Independent Wine Consultant! It’s rockin’ because I basically take wine to my host’s house and bring the wine country to them!  I get to meet other people in my area, get to get away from my kids (yes I just said that) and I get to make some money in the mean time.  Not to mention that I also get wine and I HAVE to drink it as a part of my “research” and it’s tax-deductible! HA!  I mean, seriously, it doesn’t get any better!  If you haven’t looked head to HeyWineLady.com and see what I can offer you.  Now the bad part is we can only ship to certain states, so be sure we can ship to you before you order.  I can come to your home and have a tasting if you live in the San Antonio/Austin/Houston area.  I’m even going to have a tasting in the Amarillo area for my mom (and all her Catholic friends, you know how they like wine!…and yes I just said that too).  I think I’ll make a few hundred every month until I get going and then the chance to make even more is there too.  Not too bad really, especially for something that I enjoy and I don’t need to have a sitter!  By the way we also have a wine club (who doesn’t like wine delivered to their door every month), personalized wine labels and gift baskets!  Seriously, check it outNOW!

I had to get a new computer (YEAH!).  My old one died like I’ve never seen a computer die before.  So we bit the bullet and purchased a new one…I want to sleep with it and sniff the yummy electronic smell.  Yeah, yeah, yeah…you know new electronics smell good! I love it…it’s so fast and shiny and it doesn’t ever “not respond”!  Ooohhh…what did I ever do before.

I’d hate to overwhelm y’all with a crazy long post after being gone for so long so I’ll leave y’all wanting more!  Oooh, wait…as of today I’m down 15.5lbs!  It’s coming off way slower than I want and at the pace I’m on now I’ll hit my goal by this time next year!  But I do have arm muscles…not just flab that just waves when I do.  I still haven’t found my abs, they’re under a layer of fat still hanging on but I have found a HUGE lump of scar tissue from my c-section that hurts but that’s for another blog post! HA!

Big things brewin’

29 Apr

I feel like I have a lot of things on the burner right now.  Some are important…some not really important…and some not important at all.  But lots of things nonetheless.

Thing 1. And no it does not have blue hair and wear a red jumpsuit with a 1 circled on it. (If you don’t get that reference please for the love of all things holy grab Dr. Seuss’ book “The Cat in the Hat”!) Ooh, right…

Thing 1.  I’m applying for two jobs.  They are the same job but with different cities.  I won’t go into detail on this right now because it could bite me in the ass (e.g Dooce style).  But let’s just say it could really help financially.

Thing 2.  Again, not of the Seussian variety but pretty fun still.  I’m looking at a business venture. Even if one of the Thing 1 jobs comes through this is still something I could do sometimes.  I think it’ll be a lot of fun and I’ll get to meet some people!  I’ll tell you more when this comes to fruition, which should be soon.  But if you like wine you’ll LOVE this!

Thing 3.  I’m getting my blog redesigned.  Personalized and me…not some template from WP.  I’m not sure what it’ll look like yet since I won’t start working with the designer until June/July-ish.  But I so can’t wait!  My own spot on the internet that screams “Melanie”!  Wooo hoooooo!

Thing 4.  Shit, I can’t remember.  That’s bad.  I had something going on that wasn’t important and now it has flown from my head.  It REALLY musta not been important for me to forget what it was by the time I got to #4!  HA!

And just for an update I’m down a little over 11lbs since starting the diet.  Last week sucked, the scale only ticking down .9 notches…yeah not even a whole damn notch!  I totally will blame that on Aunt Flo, the bitch.  Now that she’s gone I hope to make up a little bit but I still feel very bloated and fat, so we’ll see tomorrow.

Wow, where do I begin?

10 Mar

I mean, I’ve been MIA and I have no idea where to even begin on the update!  So, let’s see…

~ My ma and Chris came down for the weekend.  Chris had a bunch of meetings so we didn’t get to see him too much, unfortunately.  But we did get to spend Saturday with my ma.  We always have fun together, I don’t think it matters what we do or where we go.  We did get to baby sit their puppy, Zoe.  Chris and I went in together and got ZoeZoe for Ma for Christmas.  Boy is she a handful.  She’s spoiled and beyond cute.  Luckily she slept really well for us, better than Jay actually.  Kenna already misses her but honestly watching her is harder than watching a kid!

~ Kenna’s birthday is coming up.  It’s strange because we always have a party for her.  Hell, last year we took most of the family (the ones that could be here) to Sea World for the day.  This year her party will have to wait.  Because of spring break, St. Patrick’s weekend and a friend’s birthday she decided to have her sleepover in April.  Such a big girl to understand that things come up and come up with a compromise.

~ St. Patrick’s weekend.  I’m from a teeny-tiny town in the panhandle.  This town celebrates St. Pats…with a parade, carnival and all kinds of fun stuff.  Every year we go there and enjoy all that St. Pat’s has to offer.  Tons of my family comes and it’s like a mini family reunion.  We didn’t go last year because I was, oh, 32 weeks pregnant and no one wanted me to travel 8 hrs.  So, I’m ready to par-tay next weekend!

~ Jay rode in a big boy swing for the first time last night.  We were at Kenna’s softball practice and he started getting fussy.  So I took him over to the park and stuck him in the swing.  He giggled and smiled and giggled some more.  When he’d stop swinging he’d kick his legs and get fussy and it was hard getting him out!

~ I’ve been applying to every company I can think of in San Antonio.  Some positions I’m totally qualified for, some not completely.  I seriously have applied to 8 companies that I can think of, I know it’s more than that though!  I have two reasons why I’m not getting a call back (other than the economy and unemployment so everyone’s looking for a job)…1)I have no college degree. I’ve got over 100 hrs toward my BS but I don’t have the money to go back. 2)My work comp claim. I never thought of that until my dad said that some companies bay attention to that. UGH!

~ I have a large post about my weight in my head. I would add it to this but I think it deserves a post of its own.

Anywho, there you have some of the update.  I dunno if you’ll get the weight post tomorrow since it’s softball practice AND Grey’s and Private Practice night!  Thursday’s are a big night for me! LOL

Ahhhh, FIRED!

3 Jul

Just an update quickly because I'm too pissed and crying too much to write a real post.  Anyway, I was fired today due to consecutive absenses.  I'm not happy.

My little drama queen…

30 Aug

You know, my little girl…excuse me, my BIG girl started school. She actually started on Monday and she did wonderfully.  As did I!  I didn't even cry, I did tear up a smidgen, but that was it.  Her teacher is wonderful and her class is actually pretty small for being a huge ass city; there's only 16 others in her class.  So, there's not much really to post, but I will share a digital page I did for her first day of school.

Oh, and I have a job!  I start on Monday the 10th for a wonderful company in town!  I'm making over $13/hr (which is

good since I don't have a degree yet). I also get to get licensed in insurance too!  I'm excited!  My ankle surgery is scheduled for Thursday the 6th also..

Excuse all the digi pages, I'm totaly into digital scrapbooking right now and wanted to share my newest ones!
